I don’t often bite the hook of the photo challenge. I’m a writer, and though my blog features fantastic photography, the photo taking is usually the work of my talented husband, Bruce. He blogs over at through the luminary lens.
But this week, the writer in me couldn’t resist the challenge.
Juxtapose – to set something in close proximity to another in order to highlight a contrast.
Writers often have life-long love affairs with certain words and I’ve always been wild about the word juxtaposition. The moment I saw the photo challenge post, the perfect depiction popped into my head and it just happens to be a picture I took myself!
I snapped this on the streets of San Francisco in 2010 and didn’t realize what I had captured until later – a billboard sign of a beautiful woman in sunglasses perfectly framed through the sides of a passing San Francisco fire truck.
What could be a better juxtaposition?

That’s a great photo, Francis, especially considering the truck was moving. I’m sure your husband was proud.
I think I would feel it was more of an accomplishment if I had actually planned the shot. I mostly point and shoot and hope for the best. Sometimes it works out. Thanks for stopping by, Jill.

Very Cool! Bruce couldn’t have done it better!
Well, I’m not so sure about that – his shot would have been in focus. Then again, maybe that’s because he has a better camera. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
Ha! It’s impressive, in any event.

Agreed. One in a million shot.
I love it but know I was just lucky. But probably a lot of photography is like that. Oh, oh – all the real photographers have just dropped me.
I wouldn’t walk in front of a lens for a while if I were you:)
What an amazing picture, what an unbelievable shot. You couldn’t have planned that if you tried. Perfect. Juxtapose is a cool word isn’t it?
It sure is a cool word – just found a usage in my work in progress and fell in love all over again.
🙂
Great, love it Francis! I had to do a double take because it’s quite eye-catching. What a fantastic catch!
I felt the same when I first downloaded the photo. We had such a fabulous day in downtown San Francisco – so many breathtaking sights.
perfect!
Thanks – I don’t often draw attention to my photos (unless they’re of my granddaughters and then it’s in the vein of – look, look, they’re so cute) so I was going out a bit on a limb with this post.
It’s fun. . .and if we can’t have fun on the Internet. .. what’s the point? 🙂

What a great shot! Perfect timing.
Thank you for the compliment and thanks for stopping by 🙂
Hi. Love the red of the engine. We were in San Francisco last year and it’s great to see a photo from there! Jane
Isn’t San Francisco a fabulous city to wander around? We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
